General settings, startup, and exit
Adjust language and appearance, and choose when Corral starts and quits.
Appearance settings
| Setting | Choices and effect |
|---|---|
| Language | Selects the language of settings. |
| Theme | Uses system, light, or dark appearance. |
| Menu bar / tray icon | Shows the Corral icon in the menu bar or tray. |
| Density | Chooses compact or comfortable setting-row spacing. |
| Shortcut display | Shows modifiers as symbols or text without changing the assigned combination. |
Before hiding the icon, make sure you know how to reopen settings. Icon visibility and whether the app is running are separate.
Autostart and the startup window are different
Start at login controls whether Corral runs when you log into this device. Startup behavior sets what you see after the app starts.
- Open settings at startup: show the settings window when the app starts.
- Start in the menu bar / tray: start without opening settings.
To start automatically without covering your work, enable autostart and choose the quiet startup option. A hidden settings window does not mean the app is not running.
What happens when settings closes
| Choice | Closing settings | Quit completely |
|---|---|---|
| Quit only from the menu bar / tray | Closes the window while leaving Corral running. | Choose Quit in the menu bar or tray. |
| Always exit on close | Also quits the app. | Close settings. |
Corral’s shortcuts and window-management actions are unavailable after the app quits. Open Corral again to use them.
Revisit onboarding and shortcut help
Restart the first-use walkthrough from General. If you only need shortcuts, open the cheatsheet instead. Shortcut help is also available from the menu bar or tray.
Anonymous onboarding analytics covers the first-use walkthrough; it is not a setting for measuring app launches or normal feature use. It is always enabled for Free and can be disabled with Pro. The notice states that window titles, app names, and paths are not collected.
Save errors and legal notices
If startup or exit settings fail to save, recheck the setting and retry.
Open the license viewer under General’s legal notices to read bundled third-party software and font notices. Window-placement options live in Window Management; OS-specific behavior is covered in platform settings.
